About Avelyn's Grant Fund

This fundraiser is for Project Heart, a nonprofit that specifically funds CHD research. Last year they provided a grant to Vanderbilt's pediatric interventional cardiology team to research less invasive interventions within the cardiac cath lab (aka performing cardiac surgeries without opening the child's chest). These same innovative cardiologist were able to place the experimental covered stent in Avelyn's occluded superior vena-cava. Though we still lost Avelyn a few months later (due to an unrelated septic event), this procedure greatly improved her quality life and gave us more time with her. CHD research saves, improves, and lengthens lives. There's still so many unknowns and so much room for improvement within the realm of CHD care. The disease is the number one killer of our nation's children and remains vastly underfunded. Without continued advancements, we will continue to lose beautiful souls, like our precious Avelyn, way too soon.
